What Do Groceries and Jewelry Have in Common?

Vendors for major retailers in both categories are getting screwed by tariffs

I was struck by this comparison when I saw this excerpt from a letter that Albertsons sent to their grocery vendors…

So I went back and read some of the excerpts from the letter that Signet sent to their vendors.

“We are not accepting any new tariff impacts at all to current purchase orders. Cost and payment structure will be based on all existing atelier pricing, with current tariff structure in place.”

The order applies to a wide range of purchase categories, including all asset purchase orders currently in production or previously placed for future shipment. It also includes memo inventory held by Signet, as well as memo items in process or secured for future import. Orders fulfilled through drop-shipping and e-commerce are also covered.

This will be some tough losses for Signet vendors. How can the memo programs, in particular, pencil out?
