Julie Yoakum’s next chapter
Yesterday Signet Jewelers pulled the curtain back on a trio of senior-leadership appointments, headlined by the arrival of Julie Yoakum as President of Kay Jewelers and Peoples Jewellers. In the newly created role, Yoakum will steer merchandising, omnichannel execution and brand experience for roughly 1,400 stores across the United States and Canada, putting her squarely at the center of Signet’s “Grow Brand Love” strategy.
A résumé built for disruption
Yoakum spent the last eight years at Helzberg Diamonds—rising from Chief Merchandising Officer to President & Chief Brand Merchant Officer—after merchandising stints at Blue Nile, Nordstrom and Gap. Her Helzberg tenure was marked by double-digit e-commerce expansion and a relentless focus on product storytelling, credentials that dovetail neatly with Signet’s push to reignite sales at its marquee chains.
Champion of lab-grown diamonds
Julie has been one of retail’s earliest and loudest advocates for lab-grown diamond jewelry. Under her watch, Helzberg became the first national chain to embrace the category.
Immediate priorities
Portfolio differentiation. Expect Kay’s bridal business to integrate certified-sustainable lab-grown collections, mirroring rêve’s success Helzberg.
Cross-border synergy. In Canada, Peoples Jewellers can serve as a real-time test bed for omni-channel pilots that later scale to Kay’s 1,000-plus U.S. stores.
Story-driven marketing. Yoakum’s passion for narrative retailing aligns with Signet’s investment in data-enabled personalization and the recent hire of CMO Lisa Laich.
Industry ripple effect
Yoakum’s jump is more than an executive shuffle; it is a strategic bet on the continuing mainstreaming of lab-grown diamonds. With the category already approaching 70 % share of U.S. engagement rings, her playbook could accelerate lab-grown adoption across Signet’s global footprint—putting competitive pressure on rivals who still treat the segment as an afterthought.
The next chapter of that track record begins now—and the entire diamond industry will be watching.

“Julie brings over 30 years of experience and a strong track record of sales growth.”
